The Great and Terrible Oz

naol, you may or may not have seen this, but someone in Ethiopia has comments about your Africander.Evidently, "Desta" means "Happiness". Still, it's neat to see how all this spreads.
Fri, Feb. 17th, 2006, 12:30 pm One more!

We have another late submission. sunnyd_lite's Traveling is no Pastime, set in Western Sahara. No, I haven't read it yet. Yes, I expect it to be great. ( ETA: I have read it, and it is great.) No, I haven't updated the page which shows what got done. Yes, I expect to do so soon. No, mine is showing no progress. Yes, I hope to finish it someday.

This is the fic response master list for the "Scatterlings and Orphanages" Africander challenge. ( Master List )

The Updated list is: Burundi Central African Republic Comoros Equatorial Guinea Guinea Guinea Bassau Namibia Western Sahara Zambia ( The updated map is here )The count is 46 of 55. That's 83.6% or so. Nine more until we're done! And you know how people write how African countries get taken over by mercenaries? The Comoros is one of the countries where that happens! Why has nobody taken this up? And, on request of a clearly insane bigsciencybrain, I have dropped the top limit for signups. She now has five. Yes, she's nuts, but you might be. too! C'mon! Take another country?

There are 39 46 of 55 countries claimed for the Scatterlings and Orphanages Ficathon. 39 46 of 55 sounds good, and it is, but it isn't done. ( Look at the Map )I am not claiming I've been to all these countries, of course. But I'm seeing big gaps in the map, gaps that could be easily filled. Pimp away! 16 9 nations to finish up! And, for ease of listing, the countries available are:
Central African Republic Comoros Equatorial Guinea Gambia Guinea
Guinea-Bissau Namibia Niger Western Sahara Zambia
(OK, it's off. I'll fix it later.)
Scatterlings and Orphanages -- The Africander Challenge
- To participate in the challenge, claim a country in the comments, along with name and email address. (LJ Users have their name implicit and their email listed on their info page, so unless you hide yours from non-friends and haven't friended me, you don't need to list email here.)
- You are encouraged to check before claiming a country. It is my preference that every country get covered before going to the next one -- I don't want four Egypt fics and no Burundi fic -- but I won't force anyone to change.
- I don't see how you can get the feel of a country in less than 1000 words, so I encourage longer-form fiction. I will not be counting words, however.
- One country per comment. Two countries per person, max. Don't bogart the place.
- The nations of Africa are ( being taken quickly. 40 of 55 have been claimed already. )
- Not all of your fic needs to take place in your county, but a majority of it should. Not all of your fic needs to take place post-"Chosen", but a majority of it should. Not all of your fic needs to feature Xander, but a majority of it should. This is an Africander ficathon.
- I encourage spell-checking, beta-reading and most other means to make fiction readable.
- No content restrictions. No ratings restrictions. I would prefer no songfic but I can't stop you.
- Deadline is Buffy's birthday, January 19. Late posts are accepted, early posts are encouraged. Please post your work to your LJ (or whatever you choose to distribute your fic) and alert me on my master list post. This means something must be done. If this inspires a 50-chapter WIP, the first chapter must be up by deadline.
- Research is encouraged. Good places to start with are Wikipedia, The CIA World Factbook, Robert Pelton Young's Most Dangerous Places and related website, and the books from Lonely Planet.
- Please consider submitting your work to
whiskyinmind's Xander archive, I Need A Parrot.
Mon, Nov. 28th, 2005, 08:13 pm Thousand Miles From Nowhere (Xander, post-"Chosen" Africa, open_on_sunday)

Willow, Xander, post-"Chosen". Continuation in the Sat-Phone series. Mention of acts that could possibly cause an impression among impressionable youth. Characters are not mine, but Joss Whedon's, although I think he's kinda abandoned them. ( Fic )

Giles, Xander, post-"Chosen". I can't imagine this contains anything remotely objectionable besides the use of characters that are Joss Whedon's, not mine. Perhaps part of a continuing thing. Perhaps not. ( Late Night Sat-phone Conversation )
